MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

December is a time of celebration, and Pikes Peak Library District ends 2008 with much to celebrate.

In October, the Hennen American Public Library Ratings (HAPLR) was published. This national rating system ranks public libraries across 15 different factors, in various population groups. PPLD was ranked among the top 10 libraries in the nation serving populations of more than 500,000.

In November, our Monument Branch Library received the Colorado Library of the Year award at the Colorado Association of Libraries annual conference in Denver.

PPLD’s national honor shows that our District is a highly effective and efficient library system, as 15 different criteria were considered and weighed to achieve a score leading to our No. 9 designation. The honor our Monument Branch Library received was based, in large part, on our Library’s connection with the Tri-Lakes community. Both are an indicator of our staff’s hard work and dedication to excellent service.

But the final ingredient in these honors is you! Your usage will bring our District’s circulation to more than 7 million this year. Your visits to our facilities annually total more than 3 million. It is your involvement and the value you place in our library system that sends us over the top… what a team we make!

So, enjoy the holidays and your own family celebrations this month, as we celebrate our year of success. Remember, we are here with books, DVDs, and magazines that are full of holiday cooking and decorating ideas to help. Check this issue for some of our special programs this month as well.
