Assistive Technology

All PPLD Branches have the following equipment for patron use:

East Library and Fountain Branch provide assistive technology workstations with the following features:

Hardware:

  • Adjustable table and wrist rests
  • Large-print keyboard
  • Track ball mouse
  • Headphones and microphone
  • Speakers
  • Scanner.
  • Touch screen LCD monitor (Fountain)
  • IntelliSwitch system

Software:

  • JAWS: Screen reader for blind and low vision users
  • Magic: Screen magnifier
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking: Voice recognition program. The user can control the computer by speaking to it.
  • OpenBook: Scanning/reading program. Printed material can be scanned and converted to synthesized speech.
